BirchBuilt Beanery | Our Story
A craft café on 37th Street
BirchBuilt Beanery found its home in Astoria's former Cafe Sparrow space on 37th Street — and quickly became something the neighborhood didn't know it was missing. It's a place built for lingering: over a banh mi, a Vietnamese iced coffee, or nothing more than a long afternoon.
Built in the neighborhood
The beanery made this space its own — with indoor and outdoor seating, Wi-Fi, and board games that turn a coffee run into an actual visit. Neighbors have gathered here for everything from quiet working lunches to a Champions League Final watch party.
Craft across the counter
The menu runs from homemade-baguette banh mi and pho to fresh focaccia. Astoria locals have singled out the banh mi by name, calling it excellent in neighborhood dining threads.
Coffee close to home
Beans come from Sweet Leaf, a fellow Queens roaster — a deliberate, local choice that keeps the café rooted in the community it serves.
The welcome
Tom and Mallory have built a space that feels thought-through — from the layout of the seating to the warmth at the counter. That personal approach is part of what makes BirchBuilt feel less like a stop and more like a place.
